Wells Charity 10k for Kingfisher Family!

Kingfisher would like to congratulate Pete and Angie’s daughter, Laurie, our office administrator, on her fabulous achievements.

“Sunday 28th of May came around rather quicker than I was expecting. It was the morning of the Wells 10k and my stomach was in knots! All the runners met in the busy Market Place to get their numbers, the warm up commenced, upon looking around I started to feel nervous. The square was filled with serious club runners looking very fit and professional in an array of colours! But then I remembered why I had entered….not only was I running to get fit and achieve a personal goal, I was also raising money for my chosen charity -  “The Katie Piper Foundation”. This charity raises much needed funds for individuals that have been affected by burns and scars to support their journey to recovery.

The horn sounded and we were off!! The support, especially through the High Street, was amazing. My family and friends had gathered outside the Kingfisher shop to cheer me on. The first couple of miles were good, I felt great…..but then we reached Constitutional Hill! I managed to keep jogging, although every muscle in my body was telling me to stop, the downhill section of the course was a very welcomed sight! This brought me out by the Bishops Palace and despite being able to see the finish line the marshals told me I had completed 5k and had to run another circuit! Second time around was much harder, my legs felt like lead weights, but I accepted the challenge and kept plodding on!

Picking up my pace as I reached the moat, I sprinted towards the finish line high fiving my son as I passed my cheering family! I finished with a smile on my face knowing I had achieved a personal goal and raised £100 in sponsorship for the Katie Piper Foundation.”
